4.Talking the dance

Updated: Oct 14, 2019

This was an example of research, documented as a dance and spoken word piece. This was inspired by Gillie Kleiman during her sessions at the University as part of a practice research module. I had also just discovered Nicola Gunn’s work, in particular a piece called “piece for a person and a ghetto blaster”where she dances while narrating a personal story. I emulated this idea, relating a personal story while dancing, with a soundtrack I had made using my own body to create layered sounds of coughing, thumping, clapping and singing.

The idea of talking while dancing seemed to me an interesting way of normalising dance as just another everyday way of extending and expressing oneself.
